In the era of the digital, what could a printed publication offer to an artistic project?
Does print media still have a place in the future of publication? Which are the limits and which are the advantages? How could digital media and print be combined to form a new way of reading publications? LABattoir in collaboration with Artecitya project by Goethe Institut Thessaloniki organised: Publication Design Workshop with Anja Lutz: The Artecitya Case Guest Lecturer: Dimitris Koliadimas - Founder & Creative Director of Semiotik Design Agency In a 5-day workshop, we explored the possibilities of the publication design, the ways of printing, the combinations of different media, bidding and folding techniques, and the power of book as an object and its potential of creating an experience. Finally we worked on a real case, developing several approaches and concepts for the Artecitya publication. ModerationAnja Lutz is a Berlin-based book designer specialising in contemporary art publications. She studied at the University of the Arts London and the Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht. She was Visiting Professor at the American University of Beirut and the Bauhaus University in Weimar, as well as Design Fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude. She was the initiator of the experimental publication platform shift! [shift.de], that has won numerous awards and was present at various festivals and exhibitions, including the Vitra Design Museum, the Design Biennale at St. Etienne, Colophon in Luxembourg, the Brno Design Biennial and the Bangkok Design Festival. Anja is also cofounder and art director of The Green Box art editions [thegreenbox.net], a publisher of artist books. She is developing and designing books in close collaboration with the respective artists and has published the first interactive art E-books.
